Friday Beavers

Friday Beavers meet 5.30pm – 6.30pm in school term time.

Our base is the Scout Hut on Spylaw Street but we aim to get out and about as much as possible making the most of the natural resources and wild spaces on our door step. Our favourite activities include hill walks followed by a well-deserved sausage roll, campfires (at Bonaly Scout centre and in Bonaly Park), following trails, shelter building, night walks. stargazing, making & flying kites, making & sailing boats, orienteering & map reading skills.

When in the scout hut we have a theme each evening which we explore through games, challenges, cooking and craft projects.

Over a two year cycle we aim to attain the six Beaver Scout Challenge Badges: Outdoor, Adventure, World, Team, Skills and Personal followed by Chief Scout Bronze award. We also work towards a range of activity badges ensuring that our programme is balanced encouraging Beavers to:

  • Master new skills and try new things
  • Have fun and go on adventures
  • Make friends
  • Be curious about the world around them
  • Help others and make a difference, on their own doorstops and beyond

Our colony has up to 24 boys and girls supported by Megan (Beaver Scout Leader), Val (Assistant Beaver Scout Leader), two adult section assistants and Young Leaders (young people 14-18 who are in the scout movement training as Young Leaders or who are working towards Duke of Edinburgh award). We are particularly proud of our Young Leaders who have often started their scouting life with us as Beavers and come back to share their enthusiasm and skills with the boys and girls.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
